The Terroir
Terroir in specialty coffee is shaped by soil, climate, variety, and people. Monte Copey is located in Costa Rica’s Dota Valley at 1,900 meters above sea level.
Soil
Our soils stand out for their exceptional richness in organic matter — the result of decades of conservation, conscious management, and natural regeneration processes. This biologically active composition nourishes the roots and allows each variety to develop complexity, minerality, sweetness, and structure.
Microclimate
The pronounced thermal contrast between cold mornings and mild afternoons creates a uniquely slow ripening process. This results in denser beans with higher sugar concentration, greater florality, bright acidity, and a structured sweetness.
Varieties
We produce our legendary Typica Monte Copey, one of the most recognized coffees in the country, alongside other varieties that express our terroir in extraordinary ways: Red Bourbon, Yellow Bourbon, Monte Copey Selected Geisha, Ethiope, and Catuaí.
We also manage an experimental garden with more than 30 genetic selections, sourced from different terroirs around the world, in a continuous search for new sensory expressions.
The Curator
The human element completes the Domaine. Our team, guided by the curator, interprets the land by listening to the soil and climate, transforming nature’s expression into the cup.
Enrique Navarro Jr., with more than 15 years dedicated to producing and crafting coffee, carries forward the legacy of Enrique “Segueto” Navarro (†). His role is to translate what nature offers — Deciding when to fertilize, prune, harvest, and process each lot.
