About
Monte Copey

Monte Copey is a fourth-generation coffee farm in Costa Rica’s highlands, focused on producing specialty coffee through regenerative agriculture, family tradition, and respect for the land.

Monte Copey’s story begins with our father, Enrique “Segueto” Navarro (†), a pioneer of specialty coffee in Costa Rica, and Grisel, our mother, whose support and conviction were essential along this journey. From an early age, they taught us not only how to grow coffee, but how to understand the land.

Coffee Defined by Terroir

Our father was among the first to believe that coffee could be interpreted like wine — with identity, origin, terroir and character.

His passion for the land and his intuition led him to dedicate his life to cultivating it with purpose, convinced that the terroir of Monte Copey held the potential to earn its place in the world of specialty coffee. We vividly remember how he would gaze at the mountains of the Dota Valley and call them “The Promised Land.” That was our earliest inspiration.

Regenerative Agriculture at Our Core

Our approach to regenerative agriculture was shaped by our father, who taught us that great coffee begins long before the plant — in the soil itself. From him, we learned to respect living ecosystems, natural cycles, and the vital role of biodiversity.

Since 2020, Monte Copey has focused on regenerative agriculture, promoting soil health, biodiversity, and climate-adaptive farming. Our farm serves as a living laboratory where nature and specialty coffee coexist, enhancing terroir and producing coffees unique to this land.

More than coffee producers, we consider ourselves coffee growers — caretakers of the land, and passionate about what we do.
